An 8.7 magnitude eartquake struck off the coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra at 2:38 pm (Indonesia time). The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami watch for the entire Indian Ocean. According to a report from CNN, the quake struck about 500 kilometers from Indonesia’s Aceh province and took place at a depth of 33 kilometers.
